ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF HIGHER TECHNICAL INSTITUTIONS IN EFFECTIVE IMPLEMENTATION OF NATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY 2020

The new National Education Policy- 2020 (NEP) has a vision to reinstate India in the coveted position of world leader at global level. It provides an opportunity to the higher Educational Institutions especially those engaged in technical education to create a system that contributes directly to transforming the country into a global knowledge superpower. It aims for an inclusive and equitable Education System and at Higher education level introduces broad-based, multi-disciplinary, holistic education with flexible curricula, creative combinations of subjects, integration of vocational education and multiple entries and exit points with appropriate certification.
The Seminar is an attempt to answer the questions that how NEP 2020 will prove to be a milestone in meeting country's inclusive development goals amidst building a robust engineering and technical community and how we can more effectively share with students—current and potential—our passion for designing systems, structures, and devices to solve problems and our conviction that engineering is a profession that offers rich rewards for serving the interests of society.
The objectives of the seminar is to chalk out Long Term, Medium Term and Short Term action plans for the effective and timely implementation of various dimensions of the National Education Policy – 2020. The Policy has created a large canvas with futuristic vision. We, at NITs, have a unique role to attain the vision by contributing our bit in accomplishment of the Principles of National Education Policy 2020.

Keynote Address by the Architect of New National Education Policy, Padma Vibhushan Dr. K. Kasturirangan.

Three Panel Discussion Session shall be held wherein following broad Themes shall be deliberated upon by stalwarts in the field :-

Panel I. Eclectic Blend of Multidisciplinary Skill Based Education, Nurturing Creativity and Entrepreneurship.

• Holistic Personality Development
• Elective Streams in Arts, Law, Sciences and Social Sciences
• Interweaving Ethics and Soft Skills in Vocation
• Credit Pools, Flexible Entry/Exit option
• Inculcate entrepreneurial acumen / Startup ecosystem

Panel II. Conducive Learning Environment and Motivated Faculty

• Dynamic and self evolving curriculum
• Autonomy to faculty for design and implementation of curriculum.
• Choice based Credit System (CBCS)
• Infrastructure for Physical / Psychological / Emotional well being.
• Online Education / Learning Resources
• Incentives to faculty for excellence in academic research, innovation and teaching.

Panel III. Optimum Utilization of Educational Resources for Equity and Equality in Higher Education

• Introduce bilingual degree courses in Engineering & Technology to include teaching in Indian Languages.
• Create an all inclusive environment to provide social, emotional and academic support to students of under privilege section.
• Promote traditional knowledge and enable local people to participate in Atma Nirbhar Bharat.
• Develop Skill based Training Modules to improve employability and prospects of self employment
• Creating and sharing pooled resources among logically network Institutions.

The seminar aims to bring together faculty, scientists, engineers, students, research scholars, industry personnel, representatives of Govt. and other academic bodies. The participation to the Seminar is free and all interested are invited to join the thought provoking sessions for a better insight into National Education Policy 2020.
