Golden Jubilee Celebration 2009-2010 National Seminar On “Managing Inclusive Growth in India: A Re-look into the Socio-Economic Perspectives” February 12-13 (Friday-Saturday), 2010 Inception of a three tier mechanism of governance in the Constitution of India and reduction in age group for use of right to vote have been the twin major initiatives ever taken during the post-Independence era that have led India to grow now with inclusiveness. The Constitutional authority given to the Panchayats could offer them opportunity for inculcating the process of development and reorienting the distribution channel, deeper and wider to the far flung areas. In recent years, the programmes of spreading rural road network, mobile connectivity, rejuvenating the public distribution system, spreading primary education and recapitalizing rural banking, have all together ,brought the left-outs, almost half of the population living in the distant villages , to the main stream of national development . The infusion of IT during the eighties could bring new age India to the forefront of globalization that has paid off a rich dividend. India’s inbuilt socio-economic strength could salvage the national economy partially from the agony of global recession. The initiatives, especially the waiver of bank loans of the indebted farmers and offering job cards to the unemployed are calling for introspection into the dynamics of managing rural India, which will lead to the variety of thought process for the society in general, the policy Planner in particular, and India as a whole. Focus on the two aspects of exclusive and inclusive growth which are complementary to each other, as demand of rural and village products cater to the need of urbanites and in turn, manufactured products move into the rural market. Bridging the gulf between two different sets of socio economies is a major task lying ahead for the academia. This Seminar is organized to offer an opportunity to all concerned – Economists, Planners, NGOs, Industries and Academia to join hands together, deliberate upon the issues calling for a fresh thought on innovation, planning, training and implementation of socio-economic programs in rural India. The soul-search, prescription and devising the implementation techniques shall be the probable outcome of this National Seminar.
