ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Physics, MNNIT Allahabad came into existence from April, 2003. Prior to this, it constituted a section of the Department of Applied Mathematics, Applied Sciences & Humanities. The Department offers Physics courses to all branches of B.Tech. students in their first year and runs Doctoral Program. The Department has dedicated B. Tech. laboratories for conducting lab experiments. The department is also going to start a "M.Sc. in Physics" postgraduate program. The program is approved by the Board of Governors and is likely to take admission from the session 2024-25.

There are eight (08) experienced faculty members in the department actively involved in teaching and various experimental as well as theoretical researches. The Department holds a competitive, cooperative, and progressive research ambiance along with quality synthesis labs and thin film deposition instruments along with characterization facility unit.

  • To impart fundamentals of physics to engineering students, serving as a foundation for their comprehensive understanding in core engineering courses.
  • To prepare postgraduate students through a rigorous and competitive master's program for addressing the challenges in the field of advancement of science and technology.
  • To train doctoral students with research and innovation skills, addressing the future demands of science and technology, and the broader needs of society.

PROGRAMMES OFFERED

Undergraduate:

The Department of Physics offers physics courses to B.Tech. programs of all branches in their first year. Students learn courses classified in various categories in their first year. Particulary, the department offers three courses under the Core Engineering Fundamentals (CEF) category to B.Tech. students.

Postgraduate:

The Department of Physics is all set to start M.Sc. in Physics program. The program is approved by the Board of Governors and is expected to take admissions from the session 2024-25.

The department is actively involved in experimental and theoretical research in the emerging areas of science and technology. The department also offers Ph.D. courses to the students registering for Ph.D. in the Department of Physics and other departments.
